Within a stone’s throw of Wensleydale lies the Georgian market town of Bedale. Surrounded by some of Yorkshire’s fi nest scenery, it is one of the most beautiful places to visit in the county.
Bedale’s Georgian heritage is refl ected in the elegant buildings which line its historic market square and the 12th century Church of St Gregory is commonly named as one of Britain’s fi nest places of worship.
Discover Bedale’s charming cobbled Market Place – home to a host of unique shops off ering everything from jewellery and antiques to custom-made furniture, women’s fashion, china and gifts. There is a delicatessen, bakery and greengrocer and the town’s butcher is locally renowned.
If you want to explore some of the other local delights, you should take a ride on the Wensleydale Railway which winds its way through some of Yorkshire’s most breath-taking vistas. Nearby Thorp Perrow Arboretum also boasts one of the largest collections of shrubs and trees in the north of England. There you can explore acres of stunning woodland, run wild and free in the adventure play area, or meet exotic birds and animals.
