Wild wins in Doncaster

There was a case of déjà vu in Doncaster today, as Wiggle High 5 rider Kirsten Wild was first across the finish line of Stage One of this year’s Asda Tour de Yorkshire Women’s race.

Wild certainly has an affinity with the roads of South Yorkshire, having won in Doncaster in what was then a one-day event back in 2016. Today, she further proved her dominance as a sprinter by winning emphatically in the town to take the overall lead on Stage One.

Teams and talent from all over the world descended on Beverley early this morning for the start of this years, two stage, Asda Tour de Yorkshire Women's race and, with a host of National, Olympic and World Champions signing on, quality was expected, and quality was delivered.

The early stages of the race saw a couple of crashes, one a minor spill and the other a collision with one of the race motorbikes causing two riders to have fairly heavy crashes. From here, two riders decided to attack; with 17-year-old Pfeiffer Georgi of Team Jadan and Meike Uiterwijk Winkel of Parkhotel Valkenberg forcing a 1-minute lead from the peloton.
